2010: the European year of the fight against poverty and social exclusion

The fight against poverty and social exclusion is one of the EU's central objectives and our shared approach has been an important tool to guide and support action in the Member States. With the rattification in march 2000 of the Lisbon strategy, the European council encouraged the Member States and the European Commisson to take measures to eradicate poverty by 2010.

The Federal Poverty Reduction Plan – coordinated by the Secretary of State for Poverty Reduction, Jean-Marc Délizee, was approved by the Council of Ministers on 4 July 2008.
