Federal Prize for Poverty Reduction 09

 

 

On Tuesday 28 April 2009 the Federal Prize for Poverty Reduction was presented in the presence of His Royal Highness King Albert II.

The Federal Prize for Poverty Reduction is one of the proposals from the Federal Poverty Reduction Plan that was authorised by the federal government on 4 July 2008. The Prize aims at creating an annual moment to spotlight the people who fight for reduction of poverty on a daily basis, as well as the great many solidarity activities for the underprivileged in our country. By awarding this Prize the PPS (Federal Public Planning Services) Social Integration and the Secretary of State for Poverty Reduction, Jean-Marc DELIZEE, want to thank these people and at the same time encourage them to continue their efforts.

A jury from various actors who actively take part in poverty reduction in Belgium, selected nine nominees from 131 candidates (52 from Flanders, 54 from Wallonia and 25 from the Brussels Capital Region). The nine nominees are listed opposite.

Besides a trophy and a promotional film to present their project, the three laureates will receive a financial contribution of € 10,000. They can use that sum to develop or expand new projects or initiatives on poverty reduction.
